Our club caters for young people and adults aged 5 and over who enjoy the benefits of being part of a community where old and young share their passion for horses. Cockatoo & District Pony Club aims to develop and enhance the relationship between horse and rider in a safe and secure environment. Monthly rallies are held on the third Sunday of the month where riders are instructed in the care of their horse as well as the finer points of dressage, show jumping, eventing and games.
The Cockatoo & District Pony Club Committee hold monthly meetings on the 4th Monday of each month. Parents and Associate Members are welcome to attend to see how the Club is organised or to raise any concerns, issues or ideas. Please contact the Secretary (Tammy Morris) to advise if you will be attending.
Thinking of joining?
The Cockatoo & District Pony Club is affiliated with the Pony Club Association of Victoria (PCAV) which sets the standards and rules by which all pony clubs are governed. Membership in the Pony Club Association of Victoria is open to children of all abilities and ages. When a member reaches the age of 17 he/she becomes an Associate Member. Associate members continue riding membership within the pony club up to the age of 25. Cockatoo & District Pony Club is a friendly club with a membership of approximately 35 riders. Our grounds are located at Josie Bysouth Reserve, Cockatoo. The primary activity of membership is the club rally.
The Rally day is held on the third Sunday of each month unless otherwise notified (other than January) and runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm. Rallies are run with morning flatwork group lessons, lunchtime meeting, and afternoon activities sessions including Showjumping, Cross Country, Games, Handimount & Jumping Lane.
The club is run by a committee of parent volunteers. Details of our current committee can be found under the webpage tab "About the Club". We have a group of experienced instructors regularly attending rallies to provide instruction to the riders. In addition we have visiting instructors in specialist areas from time to time.
Membership provides access to all pony club activities. It permits the member to compete in any pony club rings at competitions held throughout the state. Attendance at rallies has a direct impact on eligibility to compete. Membership entails certain responsibilities on the part of parents. In particular, parents (or a nominated adult) must always be in attendance on Rally day, be willing and prepared to assist with, "set up"/"pack up" at Rallies and club events. A duty roster is compiled for each year, with each family expected to complete three duties per year. The roster can be found on this website under the Membership Information tab. For information about uniform and gear requirements, please refer to the Membership Information tab.
Application for Membership
To apply for entry to Cockatoo & District Pony Club, an application form must be completed and submitted to the club secretary, along with the specific joining fee. Acceptance into the club is dependent on availability of a placement, as the club often has a membership waiting list. If you have not been a member of a pony club before we suggest you ‘Come and Try' pony club for a day. This will enable you to see if you like it and the Club to assess the rider’s and horse’s level of ability to fit them into the most appropriate group if you then decide to join the Club. This is of course dependent on the availability of space in that group level. The ‘Come and Try’ day form can be found under the ‘Forms’ tab.
